Clinical and Community Work

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (Clinical Rotation)

Completed a 21-week intensive clinical rotation at MSKCC across a variety of specialties including pediatric oncology, GI, neurology, and critical care. During staff relief, I independently assessed 7–9 patients daily and developed personalized nutrition care plans using the Nutrition Care Process (NCP). I also performed NFPEs, participated in interdisciplinary rounds, and conducted enteral nutrition calculations.

Pediatric & Cultural Nutrition Care

During my pediatric dental rotation, I provided culturally sensitive nutrition counseling to children and their families, many of whom were navigating food insecurity and adjusting to a new food environment. I educated both patients and caregivers on the role of sugars and carbohydrates in cavity development and offered practical, age-appropriate strategies for prevention. This included guidance on limiting sugary snacks and beverages, promoting consistent meal patterns, and understanding the impact of processed carbohydrates on oral health.

Nutrition Projects & Presentations

Presented at MSKCC’s clinical journal club on proactive enteral nutrition for patients undergoing allogeneic stem cell transplantation. The evidence-based presentation emphasized outcomes like reduced ICU transfer, shorter hospital stays, and improved survival rates. Additionally, I led a foodservice project where I developed and analyzed a culturally appropriate, zero-fat menu item for patients with strict dietary restrictions.

Community & Public Health Nutrition

During my rotation at God's Love We Deliver, I provided medical nutrition therapy and reassessments for clients managing complex conditions such as CKD, CHF, and diabetes. I created client-centered nutrition handouts that addressed low literacy and cultural diversity, including a full-stage CKD nutrition guide to support disease management and food access in underserved populations.
